La loro musica e' un magma vulcanico di suoni trasversali: dagli Stone Roses ai Radiohead, fino al dark elettronico dei Dead Can Dance e al pop raffinato di Bjork. Proprio la loro piu' famosa connazionale e' stata una delle loro sostenitrici, fin dal 1994, quando decise di inserire un loro brano in una raccolta da lei curata per festeggiare i 50 anni di indipendenza islandese dalla Danimarca.

‘Takk…’, il quarto album dei, uscirŕ per EMI Records il 12 Settembre. Scritto, suonato e prodotto dalla band (insieme al co-produttore Ken Thomas) nel loro studio ad Álafoss, Islanda, ‘Takk…’ č il disco che giustifica tutto l’entusiasmo manifestato per questa band eccezionale.

Grandioso e intimo, orchestrale e luminoso, riccamente sfaccettato ed essenzialmente semplice, ‘Takk…’ č il lavoro di una band al massimo delle sue capacitŕ. Completa quello che forse non hanno fatto dalla loro prima apparizione, vale a dire fare apparire idee stravaganti come musica pop, o, forse piů accuratamente, investire la musica pop con un senso di magico anelito, perso nella foschia del tempo e dell’immaginazione.


sigur rós were formed by jónsi, georg and the former drummer ágúst in 1994. they were later joined by kjartan and when ágúst left the band after the recording of ágćtis byrjun in order to pursue a career in graphic design, he was replaced by orri. sigur rós hail from iceland, and rightly claim to bring you the beautiful landscape of their homeland with their music. it's impossible to justify it with words, you have to listen to it to understand. check out the downloads page and listen to some tracks.

the band consists of jón ţor (jónsi) birgisson (vocals, guitars), kjartan (kjarri) sveinsson (keyboards), orri páll dýrason (drums) and georg (goggi) holm (bass). they create a remarkable sound considering the basic instruments used. jónsi often uses a cello bow to play his guitar, resulting in an effects-laden, atmospheric, totally unique sound. his voice is probably the most unique thing about sigur rós. a falsetto somewhere between thom yorke and a choir boy. the band have released three albums so far, plus one remix album (von brigđi - recycle bin). the first album, which has not been released outside of iceland, is called von (hope) and is quite experimental and ambient....
